Can using MAX A/C or "circulating air" in a vehicle expose you to exhaust from your own engine?

I have a 2007 Ford Ranger.

Is it safer for me to use regular AC, or the MAX A/C which recirculates air?

Which will expose me to less air pollutants?

Should I use AC on regular roads, and MAX A/C on expressways and highways?

Can using MAX A/C expose me to even more harmful particulates and fumes than if I simply used AC?

that vehicle is new enough, it should not have any cracks, or holes in places that shouldnt have...that said, you won't get harmful air either  A/C or max A/C.
