I used to sing, had a much better voice, but because of a cough (3 months long) and continuously slept late or not enough sleep, my voice become very...vulnerable. I mean raucity, when I try to reach a higher or lower note. Actually it is just a normal range, but I still hear my damning raucity voice all the time. I feel very upset about this. I am very worried. Will it recover? How? Otherwise I can never sing again.

  1. Just try to get as much sleep as possible.  Eat healthy.  If it gets worse, you should probably go see a doctor.

  2. Go see your doctor, and also rest your voice as much as you can.  Don't talk on the phone unless you have to.  Vocal chords are like muscles.  They need time to recuperate too.  You'll sing again, don't worry.  Just take it easy.

  3. make sure you drink LOTS of water (my voice teachers always tells me to "pee clear!") also, i would see an ear nose and throat dr, just to make sure there isn't any permanent damage to the vocal chords themselves. thirdly, and most importantly, you need to realize that what you hear inside your head is different than what others hear. what you may hear as "raucity", others may not hear at all. i would highly recommend finding a voice teacher you respect and studying with them. exercising your voice is just like exercising your body; your voice can become out of shape, but with diligence, you can tone it up (pardon the pun), just like you would tone our body.

hope this helps and good luck to you!
