  1. I receive many ingrown hairs from waxing. even shaving can cause the believe it or not! try this. the site is a bit weird but it will answer your question!

    Hope This Helps!

  2. Ingrown hairs are a result of a regrowing hair not coming out through its pore but instead curling up in the pore and beneath the surface of the skin.

There are four possible causes of this:

    1.  When waxing, the hair was pulled out in a direction other than opposite the direction of growth.  This could mean that the follicle got damaged and produced a new hair in the wrong direction.

    2.  When waxing the hair strand broke off just below the surface and a jagged ended hair is trying to push up through the pore and gets caught and therefore does not grow out in the normal way.

    3.  Pores can be blocked with dead skin cells, which can prevent hairs from growing out properly

    4.  A naturally curly hair may not grow out of the pore having been pulled out at the root.

You can avoid 1 and 2 by going to a good salon or learning to wax correctly yourself.  You can avoid 3 by exfoliating regularly. and unfortunately there's not much you can do about 4 other than admitting that waxing is not for you in that area or all of your body.

If you find an ingrown hair which has established itself under the surface of your skin, you can use special tweezers to extract it.  Google "Tweezerman" for more information.  However, you must make sure your tweezers and the skin around the ingrown hair sterilised with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to avoid infection.

    Hope all this helps.

  3. Anytime you remove your hair, whether it be from waxing or shaving, ingrown hairs can occur.  There's really no way to prevent it.  To treat it you can exfoliate your skin a 3-4 times a week with a loofah when you shower.
