My husband is prescribed Celexa for mild anxiety. Will this prevent us from being able to adopt a baby from China or any other country?

  1. Here are some resources that explain the current adoption requirements for China. However, I would always recommend that you speak with an agency before getting your heart set on one country.

    Good luck!

  2. First of all you don't need to answer any questions to anyone about adoption! People have no idea what it's like to go through the adoption process, through infertility and all the rest of it. It's painful and emotional, and one of the hardest things to go through.

China has fairly strict laws about medical history so I would be wary, and talk through your options with an agency They'll outline all the different countries.

As for why not to adopt domestically. These people asking, might want to talk with families who have tried to adopt domestically , never been chosen, and then need go elsewhere.Try talking to people who've gone through years of infertility, then years of being on a wait list, who then chose inter-country. There are many reasons people chose what they chose. Some as simple as they feel strongly their child is in that country. I'm stunned people have such judgments.

  3. Effective May 1, 2007 the CCAA (the govt agency in china in charge of adoptions) instituted new rules.  one of the rules is that neither parent can be using anti depressants or similar medications.  If your husband is still under physician care taking this prescription it may be a problem.  You can approach an adoption agency and ask if the CCAA can be petitioned to waive this requirement.  I will be honest it is not likely that the CCAA will do this.  There are MANY people in "line" ahead of you for adoption from China.  They are still  matching families with LIDs from January 2006.  AND when some families get the to the review room even though they are prior to the new regs they are being asked questions about new reg requirements.  Often they have to get documentation even though they should not be effected by the new rules.  I caution you about starting an adoption from China right now as the wait is currently over two years and will most likely grow to 4 yrs.  I don't know about other countries.  For more information about the CCAAs rules go to a reputable agency.  I am using CCAI (Chinese Children Adoption International) and I highly recommend it for its honestly.  And please ignore the posters who feel the need to judge you on how you create your family.  Whether you choose foster/adoption, new born domestic adoption or international it is YOUR choice and you do NOT have to explain yourself to strangers on the  internet.  good luck on your future adoption

  4. I don't know.  But it bothers me to see people adopt children from other countries when there are so many here that need the same PARENTS.  I have to ask WHY?

    ANSWER THE QUESTION, WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't let the others answer for you!!!!

Why can't or won't you adopt a needy child from this country or state that you LIVE in????????

I have seen on news reports where you have NO backgrounds of these children and have NO idea if they might or possibly could have mental problems.  Then your stuck complaining about how now you have to spend the rest of your life raising this child.  Maybe that's why here its so hard.  You can check and find out here if there is a possibility of mental problems of a child before adopting.
