Question:

Can we all agree, with respect to McCain's pick?

That Palin, whether or not she's qualified for the job, exemplifies the lack of experience that McCain has been using as a weapon against Obama? Let's take away our prejudices, OK, and assume that I would say Palin is more than qualified for the job. Does McCain's choice in a VP make sense, even then? Does it make sense for him to pick someone who has less background in politics than Obama himself, when his main point is how important experience is? How is this not shooting himself in the foot?

  1. Yeah but the idiot cons keep claiming that she has more experience than Obama.  h**l, republicans are so thick-headed, if McCan't chose a dead prostitute as VP, "IT'S STILL A WONDERFUL CHOICE."  lmao.

Edit:  Ya see republicans?  The Old Patroon below me is one of MANY that represent your character defects.  :)

  2. Shouldn't you be more worried that you're arguing that Obama is inexperienced, therefore we should be worried about Palin who is only slightly more experienced?

  3. Some of you guys are pretty silly.

    Facts:

Palin is 44, Obama 47. She served in her statehouse 20 months. Obama served in his statehouse for eight years.

Palin is running for VP but McCain is 72...guess who becomes president if he dies in office?

To answer your question, McCain did not choose wisely.  He did take away the one powerful negative about Obama. Now he has nothing to go after Obama with.

When you select a VP, I thought it was to complement your party as a whole. Obama picked Biden since Obama does lack foreign experience. I thought McCain would pick someone who will alleviate the concern that he does not have a strong grasp on the economy. I think he said it himself in the past.

Also, McCain said in April that he was determined to avoid a pick like Dan Quayle, the little-known Indiana senator whom George H.W. Bush put on his ticket in 1988. Quayle "had not been briefed and prepared for some of the questions," McCain said while discussing his vice presidential search. He was clearly aware that, as a septuagenarian, the decision he made about a running mate would be "of enhanced importance."

He obviously just picked her for women's votes that were angry about Hillary's loss but this may also alienate pro-republican men who refuse to see a women in the ofiice.

  4. I agree.  McCain is showing his own hypocrisy.  This plays right into the Dems hands.  I agree with the Dems now, 'He just doesn't get it'.

  5. I disagree. I think that Gov. Palin has more experience than Senator Obama and his 143 days in the senate. Mrs. Palin as Governor (and Mayor, before that) has at least had experience in leading and delegating. This is important. And keep in mind, Gov. Palin is running for VP, Senator Obama is running for President...

  6. Palin has more executive experience than McCain, Obama, and Biden combined.

Obama ran basically unopposed for the US Senate.  Palin had to beat the incumbent from her own party to earn her current position.

  7. I think that it's great for Obama/Biden ticket. Because by choosing a running mate with no foreign policy experience, his argument against Obama's inexperience is very weak now. Obama's running mate Biden is highly experienced in foreign policy. Therefore,Obama can lean on Biden to help him make decisions on foreign policy matters. As for McCain,he's 72 years old with a history of health problems. If he dies in office, then Palin will take over as president with very little foreign policy experience. If Obama ends up not finishing his term, Biden will be ready to take over as president because of his extensive foreign policy experience.

But yeah...by choosing inexperienced Palin for his running mate, McCain can't argue about Obama's inexperience. McCain's judgment can be really criticized now.

Also...my first impression about McCain's pick is that he's targeting women voters including especially disgruntled Hillary supporters. However, her strong pro-life record won't sit well with the women that are prochoice. Her strong conservatism won't sit right with liberals. Therefore, his pick might actually backfire. His pick can be seen as insulting womens' intelligence too.

  8. Hey man, you just back off of Sarah Palin!

She was the President of the PTA in her town of roughly 6000 people! In fact, for eight years, she was even the mayor of that town of 6000 people!

Beyond all that, she was also a contestant for Miss America!

Obviously, she has all the experience neccesary to fully function as a Republican Chief Executive. I bet Dubya couldn't even make the semi-finals for the Miss America pageant and he has been President for eight years!

  9. Palin has Executive experience as a mayor and Governor. Obama has zero Executive experience.

No contest, no comparison. Palin has more relevant experience and puts Obama to shame.

  10. The difference is that she would be VICE President, while Obama would be President.

  11. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_o...

She's only been governor for 20 months...

Yea....I'd say that takes the teeth out of McCain's attacks..

he only picked her because she has a v****a....it's sooooooo obvious.

He's trying to get the female vote....more specifically the Hillary vote...

Not gonna happen with this one..

The choice basically shows that McCain doesn't think voters are intelligent enough to see what he's doing..  it's very condecending and arrogant.

  12. I have and I can see McCain through; this man is the worst political player. He uses what ever is needed to crash his opponent, even using the dirtiest tools. So if he says Obama is inexperience and picks inexperience VP, than accept the opposite what ever he promises now. This guy is incompetent for the president job. Thanks God that he is not going to be elected.

  13. How do you say that a 2 year governer has less experience than a 143 day senator?

That doesn't even make sense. When is the last time a senator was president? Hmmmm, ever wonder why? They've never governed, that's why.

I love that the liberals are hounding on this fact, it PROVES they don't care enough to learn how the government works, hence blaming Bush for everything, lol.

  14. One big difference:  on the Democratic ticket, the person running for President has no experience. On the Republican ticket, the person running for President HAS experience.

The democratic ticket is backwards, experience wise.

    EDIT to Whimsy:

What has a child born with Downs Syndrome got to do with anything. Your comment is heartless. Is this what dems are going to resort to in order to win in November? You talk about republicans being meanspirited.

    ADDITION:

I did answer the question. Your question is based on experience. She's been a governor for 20 months. That's 600 days. Obama has spent 143 days in the US Senate. You do the math. She has done budgets for the state and as a mayor. How many budgets has Obama done? Who has less background in politics? You question is based on the idea that McCain will drop dead within days of being elected because of his age.

    Addition:

I'm not arguing that Biden has more experience than Palin, but she's not claiming to, and she's not running for President, she's running for Vice President. Will you at least admit that Obama has MUCH less experience than McCain? You've made such an effort to say your comparing VP candidates, well I'm comparing PRESIDENTIAL candidates.

    ADDITION:

He picked her for the same reason that Obama picked Biden, He (McCain) felt that her conservative stances would help him with his base, and, he feels that by picking her, he may pick up some more disgruntled Hillary supporters. Obama picked Biden because of Biden's foreign policy experience, and experience on the whole.
