You can use laptop computers on plane flights, however all wireless signal transferring apparatus must be turned off, whether it applies to your Palm Pilot, Blackberry, MP3 player, Cell Phone, or lap computer

Sure, as long as you turn off the wireless while you're in the air, laptops are fine.  The laptop bag can count for your personal item, so you can still carry a bag as well.
