can humans ever break down trans fat macro molecules, thereby using it for energy and / or removing its presence from the body? what evidence? what research studies / publications are available on this?

  1. Trans fats are more stable but they can be broken down into energy.  I think you are a bit confused on the ATP process though, the Trans fat are of carbon and hydrogen molecules, ATP cycle is ADP that adds to a phosphate group to make ATP (then it gives up the phosphate, energy, yadda yadda)  This is just basic biology.  The reason they talk about trans fats being being worse for you is that is takes more energy to break it down. and trans fatty acids (fat) are not essential and provide no known benefit to human health.  According to the NAS that advises the US and Canada on health issues.
