Can we discuss politics in a civilized way?

To honor Hurricane Gustav's victims, and the holy month of Ramadan, can we just refrain from below the belt politics, spins and rumours and put on our compansion hat and come together as Americans for once?

I don't appreciate when ppl call, Senator Obama terrorist or Osama, or when they refer to his race or color!

The same way goes to ppl who constantly talk about Senator McCain's age, or that Palin is a woman or dumb!

Lets just take the high road!

As an Obama supporter, I will discuss the issue and not the rumours, I will ask questions that bring ppl together, not divide, I will support what is right, not what is against my view point!

  1. Sorry, civil politics went out the window in 2000 when Baker and the Supreme court annointed Bush.

We don't live in America any more, but rather a self glorified banana republic.

  2. It is more fun to trash your opponent, make jokes about their shortcomings, make up lies to make them sound like monsters.

People don't 'discuss' the issues, they rant about how terrible the opposing viewpoint is, linking it to the devil or claiming they are on "God's side."

  3. Nope.

But, it may be possible to have an intelligent political discourse...where can we find some intelligent Democrats?

  4. On this forum? Fat chance, Mr. Obama supporter. But I feel your pain.

  5. I agree we can lower the level of anger and engage in rational discussion preferably with back up documentation for ones position. But it takes two to tango and I am not sanguine that everybody would follow your wise advise.

  6. The only way you could have a civil discussion of politics is to send all the Republican'ts to Alaska, since that's where their new anointed one is from. Maybe they can all get up there and have babies in two months. Heck, I'm sure enough of them will be pregnant on the plane ride that they'll give birth right on the ice at the Anchorage airport. Of course, all the sound from shivering teeth will bug the Canadians, but, who cares?

  7. You're trying to take away everything that makes discussing politics interesting.

Knowing a lot of people on here, but not all, if you try to make politics that boring and less like a discussion about religion where nobody can win and the argument goes on for hours, a lot of people would die from boredom.

Wanting the lop off the head of the guy disagreeing with you is the thrill people seek in a discussion about politics.

  8.   It's simple. All you have to do in a 2 party system is look a little better than your opponent. Unfortunately trashing your opponent without hesitation has proven to be the easiest means to that end.

  9. It is very hard to do with people who are angry, incapable of reasoning, and are of a dysfunctional natue. Nice thought though!

Edit: Mr.Cooper, on behalf of the 4,000 innocent babies slaughtered daily, I say I pity you and your view!

  10. You can do both....Insults are just a way of life for some people and they are shallow and usually meaningless. But race, age, s*x and religion are all identifiers and influences on an individual. Also those things will be important in some way to voters. Some will not vote for a black candidate even if he is more white than black, some will not vote for a woman, even if she hunts and fishes and plays basketball. Some will not for Joe Biden because they've heard him open his mouth and speak. For some McCain's age is a plus not a minus, so there.

What are the issues? The economy, defense, the future of the Supreme Court?

Obama will increase taxes and government  into people lives

    McCain will reduce government.

Obama will negotiate with terrorists and outlaw conservative Americans.

McCain will shut down the terrorists and allow liberal Americans to speak.

Obama will nominate activist judges who will legislate from the bench.

McCain will nominate interpreters of the Constitution.

In short Obama will not bring change but the same old old old old old Democrat policies that have been tried and failed for over 50 years,

that is why he picked the old old Biden.....Obama is a Democrat.

McCain is an American, a U.S. American, a REPUBLIC. America is a Republic not a democracy. He is for leadership, peace through victory and a government of Law. In Short he is a Republican!

    These are our choices.

We can All agree on the problems it is the method for solving those problems we need to consider....I believe in the people not the government to provide the answers...

He is not my first choice, but I pick McCain over Obama or Hillary or Joe Biden...

    My first choice? Alan Keyes....

God Bless you, God Bless America! Have a nice day!

Pray for everyone, and thank a worker on this Labor Day 2008!

  11. I don't think we should declare a truce during this war to save our traditional America.  A truce against Obama and his followers simply gives them more time to collect the naive and ignorant.  We must be vigilant during times of war, and I think we are at war now to save America.  God Bless America.

  12. It's a great thought, but good luck getting people to do it on a regular basis, especially on these forums. The second Palin was picked, there was talk about her hiding the fact that her daughter was pregnant (WHAT?), with McCain it's age, with Obama it's race or inexperience or Reverend Wright...

Notice all this has nothing to do with election issues?

I stand with you, but I think we'll be fairly lonely.

  13. I wish we could my friend but unfortunately politics is something that people feel so strongly about that if they can't find anything else to talk about they will resort to childish tactics.  I too am an Obama supporter but I get tired of the rants about race and the belief that he is a muslim (even though they have been talking about Rev. Wright's church for months).

Unfortunately, that's the nature of politics.  Do you really think the whole "Obama is just a celebrity" campaign was really about politics?  Furthermore, don't you think that it is ironic how McCain is trying to use Palin as a "celebrity."  See how easy it is to get off topic with politics (even though I believe my celebrity comment is true).

  14. I vote for the party for:

    Anti Affirmative Action

    Anti illegal immigration

Abortion is a non issue for 99% of americans.

The war, either leave or bomb them to oblivion. No sitting around.

Taxes, cut welfare to the able bodied.

    Schools, hold bad districts accountable.

  15. I wish .. Man, I wish we had more people like you on this forum ..
