Is there any chance that the harry potter fanbase can influence Warner Brothers into changing the Half-Blood Prince release date BACK TO WHERE IT WAS?!...Personally I'm sending them some howlers and boycotting all other WB movies for a couple years... greedy greedy people

  1. There is a very specific plan in place behind the chosen release date of every movie. I work for a major studio, but not in a branch which controls theatrical release. I do know, however, that studios pay very close attention to their competition at the time of a release and ideally want to put their stronger material out during a time when it's likely to have the least amount of strong competition from other blockbusters. If not that, it could be issues in filming or post production which is delaying the release of the product. Only Warner would know for sure.

But as to swaying their minds on when to release it - not going to happen.

  2. Probably not. I'm as mad as you are, trust me, but unless they honestly care about how the fans will feel for a couple of months more than an extra something-million bucks, I don't think they'd do anything. It IS a good business move, but it makes them look like pigs, in my opinion.

P.S. Maybe you could send them a singing Hallmark card. Just do a little to the card and it probably wouldn't stop. Won't do a thing, but might make you feel better.

  3. If they don't make money on the films then they won't make the whole series.

They've moved it up to take advantage of a mostly empty weekend in the Summer movie release schedule next year. Also there will be less time between HB Prince and Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (which is scheduled for November 19, 2010). Part 2 is scheduled for May 2011.

If they hadn't moved it we would have to wait 2 YEARS for the next HP movie.

  4. Perhaps if we made one universal petition and made a massive uproar. But I doubt anyone who really cares enough has the power to make that happen. There will probably be a few petitions going around. But unless we join as one, it wont make a difference.
