Neither my fiance like to dance, really... so we don't want to pay for music and dancing we won't even enjoy... We just plan on having dinner?

  1. Yes There is nothing wrong with that. Just make sure you have people sitting together. That like each other. I have been to a few wedding's without dancing. I still had a great time. Because 1 I was close to the couple. 2 the people I sat with were either family. Or Really good friends of mine. So you are busy talking and having a blast that way.

  2. Of course you can just have dinner! You can do whatever you want; I believe the dancing is for everyone else in a sense .  Just, a space filler, something to do that can involve each one of your guests; something to get everyone together and have a good time.  If you can achieve this without dancing (and you're opposed to the dancing bit) by all means I say go for it! Maybe just include some ambiance music? Something in the background.  Depending on your venue, some places have an "in house" PA system; something you can literally plug your iPod into and play a "wedding" playlist on.

    Congratulations!!! Good luck! :)

  3. Yes, but it should be shorter. 2 hours or people will get bored.

  4. Sure.  That's what we did.  My husband doesn't dance and I'm not big on crowds or parties.  We had a sit down dinner and a small program afterwards with the toasts and everything and then we opened the wedding gifts.  It was a very nice reception and a lot of people said that they enjoyed it a lot and no one seemed to miss not having dancing.

  5. My bil and sil had that and it was fine -- fantastic even. A wedding doesn't require a dance and dances can be very expensive, especially if you don't really want one.

If it was me I might have some other form of entertainment whether it was trivia or getting to know you questions on the tables or white paper on the tables with crayons or a polaroid photo booth or a caricature artist doing portraits of guests they could take home.

But a dinner party is absolutely fine and sounds very elegant.

  6. of course!

maybe have background music (play it on a good stereo) while everyone is eating so that it's not quiet with a bunch of forks clanking

other that that is sounds good

  7. Hi.  Of course you can!  Perhaps, however, you would like to have some soft "dinner music" playing.  That is always an option.  Bring an ipod and speakers (if the facility would allow this).  If not...perfectly fine.

You do not have to have dancing...it's totally optional.

Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful day!

  8. You can do that, just be sure the mingling continues or that you have some sort of entertainment.

I had a client that didn't want music or dancing but love comedy so they hired a guy to do stand up.  Another client had a fall wedding with pumpkin picking after dinner instead of dancing.  They had guest bring a change of clothes.

You cna do whatever you want, as long as you have something to keep people entertained.

  9. If you don't want a DJ that's fine. Your wedding and reception is all about what is important to you and your fiance! My fiance debated not having a DJ, but him & I both really wanted one, so we went with one. I think it's fine if you don't want to have one. Your guests will understand.

  10. YOu may have whatever kind of party you want as long as you are still polite to your guests. As you serve food and do something other than stare at them I think they will be fine. I think you should have some background music though so it doesn't seem to stuffy.  Make sure to go to each guest and thank them for coming.

You should not be opening gifts at the reception though. I guess in some areas its accepted, but generally it is considered rude. THis isn't a birthday party of a shower, people tend to give more generously at weddings so you risk embarrassing people who couldn't afford as much as others.

  11. You can but some people enjoy music and dancing. Even just background music to set the mood. I would hav a cd player handy just incase.
