  1. We can, but only in the case of minor injuries. As far as skin scars go, if the dermis (deeper layer of skin) is injured, there WILL be scarring because of the mechanism of healing: first collagen proteins and then the dermis regrows as well as possible before the epidermis grows.

    Although scarring cannot usually be prevented altogether, there are a number of ways to minimize scarring. Many of these methods involve helping the body (usually with gels) so that it doesn't have to lay as much collagen.
