Can we have too much of a good thing?

The ECB has outlined plans to replace the Pro40 and current Twenty20 Cup with TWO Twenty20 tournaments - an IPL style tournament in June and a league for the counties in July - September EVERY Friday night.

Personally, one tournament would have sufficed. If we over kill Twenty20, it will just become boring like ODI's have a tendency to be now. There were a revolution but look at them now.

  1. Until today I wasn't aware that the Twenty20 Cup was being replaced. So we're going to have two Twenty20 Leagues both having two divisions and both having 18 counties involved. It's absolutely pointless and as well as killing Twenty20 cricket it means increased workload on the players.

    The main unique selling point of the EPL - the four overseas players - is unlikely to develop because the BCCI will refuse to let their players play for county teams with ICL players and could block IPL players from signing up if they so wish.

    They've said that the Twenty20 League will act as the qualifier for the Champions League but last I heard no England sides would be allowed in the Champions League over the ICL players.

    The whole idea seems rushed and unthought-through.


  2. Personally, I would have thought one was enough, but no doubt they have their reasons.I think 20/20 will cancel itself out within a few years.That is my wish anyway.

  4. Totally agree, they are killing the golden goose by over saturating the market in all forms of the game except for test and look how thier popularity is increasing.

  5. yeah i get ya point but one is the epl=english premier league and the other is the yearly 20/20 com tht they have every year so i reackon its a gr8 idea and oid's are not boring.

    couple of days ago the aussies announced tht they will revamp their domestic 2020 set up. an APL cant be too far away.
