If growth rate is increased it will directly and indirectly affect crop production?. CAN SPEED BE OF GROWTH BE INCREASED TO A LEVEL THAT PLANTS CAN GROW TO FULL IN A DAY OR NIGHT?

IF NOT WHAT LIMITS IT.AND WHAT IS BIOMASS PARTITIONING.

  1. I don't think this is possible with current technology.  Photosynthesis just doesn't work overnight.  Unless someone where to genetically alter a plant beneficially to do this, I don't see it happening.

In the bible there is an account of a plant growing to full size in less then a day. The story is in the book of Jonah.  If you believe it(I do), then it is within the realm of possibility. Though maybe outside the grasp of humans.

  2. Yes, we can increase the growth rate of plant cell but not attaining to the point that in a day or night you can grow a plant fully. Plant growth regulators (PGRs) are responsible in increasing plants' growth...unfortunately, some PGR also inhibit plant's growth.

If growth rate is increased, it does not make much effect on crop production because plants start to produce crops when it reached a certain level of physiological phase/maturity. And once the plant reached its biological timing to produce crops, then crop production is directly affected by nutrients that the plant receive.

  3. There are several things that can be done to increase the growth rate of plant cells artificially.  Plant growth hormones, increased light intensity, and increased nutrition to name a few, but this is only to a limited extent.  Nothing that would even get close full growth in one day. Unless you are talking about single cell plants, then you would have multiple plants per day.  Most increases like you are talking about are on a very limited scale, like cell culture.  The only area in biomass production where increased cellular growth might make a significant difference is in algae production.   Algae can potentially produce more biomass, and a biomass with a higher oil content, per area of water than any plant known on land.
