  1. The school at which I worked had Pentium III's with XP up until 2 years ago, and they ran just fine. If memory ends up being a problem, you can always add more memory for not too much money. BTW - our Pentium III's had only 8 - 10 Gig hard drives, very little RAM and were networked. We had more issues with the lack of hard drive space. Since the networking software took up about 5 Gigs of hard drive space, it left us with next to no virtual memory. That did prove to slow things down considerably.

  2. it may not have enough memory for XP but you could try

  3. it should work fine XP doesn't use much memory

  4. Yes, I've done it. Do make sure it has enough memory to meet XP's system requirements.

  5. I think it'll be fine.  If your computer supports more memory (and you can find it cheap enough) get at least 512MB RAM, that'll make it faster.

I was running XP on a Pentium III 500Mhz computer with 128MB RAM (designed for Windows 98SE) for a while, I even had office 2007 on it - Office ran slowly but it did work.  Upgraded that same computer to 640MB RAM (it supports 768) and it's fairly quick!

    EDIT:

I got that computer for free because the neighbor wanted to throw it away (too slow, took 20 minutes to boot)...turned out the hard-drive was just failing - new drive and it was great!  I now use that very computer as a 'backup' for my college work when my laptop breaks and it's very nice and quick.
