  1. Space is not a substance like oxygen and water, but an abstract property of substances (like color and velocity). Specifically, it represents a domain of values (or field) quantifying the "distance" and "direction" of particles relative to each other. Distance and direction are properties which mediate how particles interact with each other based on various theoretical models.

Space can be "made" in the sense that the volume of a region enclosed by a spherical surface of radius R can be increased beyond the Euclidean value of 4*pi*R^3/3 by placing mass (preferably that of a black hole) within it.

  2. the universe is expanding and so is space.  matter can neither be create or destroy.

  3. I agree with the first answer. *hydrogen, carbon... I think.

  4. Space itself would be a vacuum, so there would be no elements associated in it's creation.  Unless you are wondering if we can create a universe.  In that case, just use a super-collider with some type of advanced stabilizing process and a coupl of good ole' sub-atomic particles.  If you are lucky enough to survive (and not create a stable black hole, I guess you would feel pretty silly getting all that fancy stabilization technology must to doom yourself), you can watch a new universe destroy or merge with ours.  Most likely destroy.

  5. I'm no physicist,  but I consider "space" to be the absence of most everything. If you could create a near perfect vacuum that is void of air molecules, atoms, and other particles, you have pretty much created "space". In other words, space is everywhere but it's just filled up with atoms and other stuff.
