Question:

Can we say God knowS or god blesses smth or is it grmmaticaly not correct?

the reason am asking is that today in my English class my teacher said that its wrong to say god blesses or god knows with the s i mean

and when i asked why he said God bends all rules including the English grammar ones -.- ... !

am almost certain ve heard "God knows best " but didnt say anything because the guy gives lectures at 2 universites

and ironicly is writing a book called Common Mistakes in the English Language

can anyone shed some light on this issue

  1. Religion doesn't belong in English!

    "God" does NOT bend grammar rules.

    It *IS* God KNOWS best.

    God is third person.

    I know

    You know

    he (God) knows

    As far as bless

    I bless

    you bless

    he (God) blesses

    However, in the phrase "God bless you", "bless" is not used in the same manner. It's generally the phrase when you sneeze or something like that and more of an imperative. It has a different meaning.

    God blesses little children -- means that God gives them a blessing.

    God bless little children -- means more for God to do that. There is an "understood" comma.

    Think of the word tell.

    Fred tells the children to do something.

    Fred, tell the little children to do something.

    I'll definitely NOT buy the book! LOL
