  1. Jupiter is the third most luminous object in the sky visible to the naked eye.  The moon is the most luminous, Venus is the second most luminous.  Without a telescope it just looks like a very very bright star however.

  5. most certainly when it's up in the night sky.  usually the brightest "star" in the evening sky.  even with ok binoculars you can probably pick out 4 moons.
