My friend has his dsl modem in culver city and I have another one here in inglewood. Can we switch our modems? He needs multiple ports while I need only one.

  1. Yes. DSL modems, in terms of hardware architecture, are standardized across the industry in order to be interchangeable.

    However, there's one hitch: when you do the switch, each of you will need to contact your ISP to inform them you've replaced your modem. They'll ask you for the MAC (Media Access Control) address of the new hardware, which will be printed on a sticker somewhere on the device. Once you update that with them, will work fine.
