  1. That depends. You are from what country and what airline are you flying with? What is the size of your pet?

    Normally, yes you can. you have two choices. Have your pet in the cargo area-if his too big to be pet in cabin. All you have to do is check with the airline. There are certain restrictions for pets. Depending on the breed they may not be able to travel with you in the season that you will be flying out. Most airlines will also require a travel document from your vet issued not later than 30 days from the travel date and a charge of $100-$200 depending on the size.(charges will also be airline dependent.)

    If you decide to travel with your pet you better make sure to contact the airlines ahead of time and add your pet in your reservation because there is a limit on a number of pets that an aircraft can hold.

    make sure you pay the pet fee in the airport or you'll have trouble boarding and might miss your flight ( this is the most common problems for people travelling with pets.)

    But first and fore most check it with the airline if they allow travel with pets and check with your local travel guide. Some pets from international countries will not be permitted to inter the US.

    :)

    additional info i found out:

    New summer embargo - breed restriction

    For the safety of your animal, United Airlines does not accept the following short-nosed dog breeds as either checked baggage or cargo from June 1 - September 30. This restriction does not apply to animals traveling with you in the cabin.

        * Boston Terrier

        * Boxer

        * English or French Bulldog

        * King Charles Spaniel

        * Lhasa Apso

        * Pug

        * Shar-Pei

        * Shih Tzu

  2. The only restrictions are for particular dog breeds so check with the American Consulate in your country and check, also, with two airlines.  I've done triple-trips with pets, including New Zealand to London.  For particulars (hundreds of words long), please, check my last reply to "cost of shipping pups to Hong Kong".   The most important things are:  airlines will not fly animals in cargo during the summer season - too many dead animals (none mine);  your animal will need a rabies vac. and animals may not be flown air cargo for more than a set number of hours - it is illegal for airlines to do this.  Animals must be "rested" after a certain number of miles traveled - ask at least two sources.
