My husband pays his child support on time every month, but also buys things for his daughter throughout the year, as in school clothes and supplies, since this is a lot of money going out for her can we somehow turn it in with our taxes for a return?

  1. No, of course not. The normal everyday costs of raising a child are not deductible for *any* parent, whether they are married or single, custodial or non-custodial.

  2. No you cannot. Basic living costs are not deductible. As I am sure you know neither is child support. It is your responsibility.

  3. You heard wrong - you can't deduct extras that you buy her, and can't deduct child support either.

If he is the parent who can claim her as a dependent, then any MEDICAL expenses he pays for her could be eligible as an itemized deduction.  He can only claim her if there is a valid court order saying he can, or if the mother has voluntarily signed over the exemption to him.

  4. Of course not.  I can't write off clothing for my kids why would a fivorced dad be able to?

  5. nope!!!
