Can we use alcoholic thermometers in candy making.

i heard that using mercury thermometers can cause many health hazards. so can i use alcoholic thermometers in that?

  1. Yes, and they're called alcohol thermometers, not alcoholic thermometers.

    Hg thermometers are only dangerous if the glass breaks (which, admittedly, can happen when they move too quickly from room temperature to hundreds of degrees).  But alcohol thermometers can break too, so if you want maximum safety get a food-service thermometer with a metal shaft.  They're pretty cheap, and they look like really big nails.

    EDIT: there's an example of one down where it says, "Temperature".
