  1. They can compete with men. Some women regularly do. Unfortunately no woman has been good enough to challenge for the world champs. Judit Polgar is by far the closest (carreer high ranking=8, current=21), but she is the only woman in the top 100 in the world currently (to my knowledge ever).

There are many reasons that women have not topped the ranks, amongst which are poorer spacial ability on average than men, social issues (it is SEEN as a men's sport), and brining children up. I was speaking to an Israeli grandmaster, and he said he thinks this is the number 1 reason why so many good women leave the game. To be the best, you have to dedicate yourself to it.

  2. yes

  3. Yes why not !!

  4. in a international tournament they can these tournament are called mixed and there may be a girls winner and a boys winner or a winner of just one of the two.

  5. Oh yes, I have been playing chess for a few years which isn't saying much considering I'm still a teen but even so, I have met some amazing chess players of the female gender, chess players that knocked the males out of the park. I hate the myth that only guys make good chess players, females are just as good and sometimes a whole lot better.

  6. Yes. There are many women with a grand master rank.
