1) What is the twin paradox?

2) Explain time dialation.

3) Why can mass not be accelerated to the speed of light?

4) What does general relativity say about acceleration compared to gravity?

Thank you ever so much!!

5) How does general relativities description of gravity differ from that of universal gravitation?

  1. The twin paradox is based on the concept that time stops when you reach the speed of light. Imagine have one twin on earth and the other speeding through the univerese at 0.99999999 speed of light. After say 10 years, the space twin returns to earth to find that he has aged slower then his earthbound twin. That is to say, because the space twin was travelling so close to the speed of light, he has aged slower because time slowed down. So despite that fact both tiwn s were born the same age, the space twin is younger due to time dialtion, and hence the paradox.

As previously alluded to, time dialtion occurs when an object travels very close to the speed of light. The faster the object goes, the slower time will become expotentially reaching zero.

Similaily, an object with mass will increase in mass the faster it goes, until it begins to reach of light, which it cant do. This is because evenutally you will have an object of infinte mass when travelling at the speed of light, and thus need an infinte source of energy to accelerate that object more (think f=ma)
