Question:

Can you DRIVE to Mexico for a warm-water swim?

I was wondering whether there are any nice places in Mexico to swim in warm sea water that you can drive to from California. It's too cold to swim in California, and I don't get to Hawaii that often. But I miss swimming in the ocean. Are there any nice Mexican towns that you can drive to from California, with warm enough water for a pleasant swim?

  1. You can if you'd like, but it depends what you call warm water. I think the water's about 55-60 F right now, which sounds really warm to me but I know that that can seem frigid to Californians and others used to the scorching southwest.

  2. I think you have to fly far enough south to find warm water.  I live just north of Manzanillo and I think it's cold.  Water temp is in the low 70's.

Driving here is a 4 day trip - just for a swim ?

Fly to cancun area or wait 3 months

  3. It's a little more of a drive, but drive to Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) and swim in the Sea of Cortez.  It's a nice calm ocean protected by Baja and the frigid Pacific ocean.  I live in Phoenix and drive down a little farther to Kino Bay and San Carlos Sonora.  Year round the water is great for swimming!

  4. Yes, you can go down to Manzanillo, or Puerto Vallarta, the sea is O.K. you can swim and it is actually quite safe too. There are many attractions in Vallarta, so go for it...
