  1. i think it depends on where you are getting it. like if you go to kay or zales those people might not have the authority to give you much of a discount but if you go to a local place or a pawn shop you probably could.

  2. At a small independent jeweler, you might be able to negotiate the price a little. For the best chance, you need to be super polite and nice while you're doing your shopping, so they'll be inclined to help you out.

At a chain store, you can ask about discounts ("Is this the best price that you can give me?") but they will be much less likely to accommodate you. Most of the sales associates have to go by the price marked.

  3. Depends on where you're buying it. If it's at an Egyptian bazaar, you are in fact EXPECTED to haggle over  the cost of everything. If it's at Zales - not so much.

  4. You sure can. You can haggle over all jewelry. There is a very high markup, so there is room to negotiate. Shop at several stores if you can. See who gives you the best price. Hint: find a ring you like, ask the price, then say you can only afford 75% of that price. (ex. $4000 ring, say " I only have $3000, can we work something out?") But never pay full price.

  5. I wouldn't tell you're girl but ya I would try.

I would say cash or no tax! She wont know the price, she'll just know the appraisal. I am sure she would be glad if you saved a few bucks on the ring. I am a girl and I would not mind at all but don't tell her!

  6. A dont think you can if you are buying it out of a shop but if your gettin it at like a market then yeh go for it!

  7. absolutly, its like buying a car!  You can talk prices, upgrades, and sales, also ask about discounts on future items like wedding bands

  8. Nowdays, definetly yes.

What we did was to cut off the middle man and go straght to the diamond dealers... we got a much better diamond a substantially better price. At chain jewely stores they have low average quality diamonds at outrageous prices.

We bouth the diamond at www.amazon.com... we chose a great 1 carat emerald diamond, paid no shipping and no tax!!!  The quality of the diamond that we got would not be available at stores (unless we are talking Tiffany, Cartier etc.)

    Good luck

  9. Yes, definitely.  If you don't, you will definitely get ripped off.

  10. you should
