I feel like I can make my self have a braxton hicks contraction. (uterus gets really tight for 30 sec to a min) when i lay on my back it seems to happen every time. is it just because I am putting strain on my uterus? or is this something else?

  1. when laying on your back you are forcing your baby into a certain spot and more than likely baby is just balling up for a litle bit trying to get comfy seeing as how he does not have to much room later in pregnancy and once baby gets themselves leveled out the tightness releases.  i hope this helps this is what happens to me the doctor said when i lay flat or stand up and lean back real far

  2. Yes. When you lie on your back, the weight of the baby and uterus are compressing the large blood vessels (aorta and vena cava) which run up your back. This reduces the fresh blow flow to the uterus. A uterus with insufficient blood flow becomes irritable and more likely to contract. This is why they often say it is good to lie on your side (preferably left) for optimal circulation to the uterus.

  3. Any movement, especially sudden or strained movements can cause these.  I've been having them for close to a month now.

  4. Don't lay on your back during pregnancy as it causes problems with your blood circulation. Best wishes, G

  5. My son will be 1 on Oct. 30:) yes braxton-hicks are medically called uterine irritability. The uterus is a muscle and contraction is just the flexing and relaxing of that muscle so many things can cause a  braxton hicks contraction even things like the baby kicking or turing in a position, a position you may turn on lay in, not drinking enough water and being dehydrated causes muscles to contract and cause braxton hicks, s*x was a big one for me for some reason during s*x I would always get braxton hicks not sure why? But yes you can cause them sometimes they happen but most of the time women get them because the body is responding to what we are doing. Also my son would ball up sometimes I though it was a contration but he was just balling up.

  6. Yes, you can stir up a contraction.

Movement, certain positions, or even rubbing your belly can sometimes do it.

This isn't true for everyone -- some women don't even feel them at all.

  7. I'm not sure, but I could always get my uterus to contract by poking it gently - sure enough, I would get a tightening of my uterus within seconds!

  8. You can't make yourself get a braxton hicks.  That's simply nature taking its course.  The best position to lay down in when you're pregnant is on your left side.

  9. thats pressure on your nerves......
