  1. It really depends on the school.

The school I graduated from, you had to chose a sport if the sports happened in the same season. Also, the cheerleaders had practice year round... nonstop, until tryouts in May, because they had competitions and community performances.

However, I have a close friend who did cheerleading and track. She ended up quitting cheerleading this year and is completely devoting her time to track, though.

I also have a friend who did cheerleading, basketball, and dance team all at the same time.

It's possible, but you should really talk to coaches of both to make sure your schedule for both sports won't conflict. Also, make sure you do not wear yourself out. Leave time for studies and practice.

I did track in middle school, and I am also a cheerleader hope full (tryouts for the winter squad are in a few months). Go us!

  2. You should be able to.  Track is a spring sport, and since cheerleaders usually just cheer in the fall and winter (football and basketball), there shouldn't be any conflicts.  My daughter cheered in middle school and was also able to do pole vaulting in the spring.  You'll have to check with your cheer and track coaches, but if there aren't any schedule conflicts, there's really no reason why you couldn't to do both.
