  1. if you eat mostly junk food

  2. if you eat junk food and a lot of carbs

  3. You can gain weight as a vegan, just as you can as a vegetarian or a meat-eater. There are vegans of all shapes and sizes.

Veganism isn't a weight loss programme

  4. Sure you can, eat to much: pasta, chips, fruit smoothies, etc.

  5. you can gain weight with any type of diet but gaining weight when you go vegan is a challenge. most likely you'll lose weight because you won't be eating as much dessert or restaurant's meals. of course if you want to gain weight eat a lot of peanut butter, salad dressing, soy ice cream, chocolate, starchy vegetables instead of green ones (corn instead of broccoli)

  6. yes being vegan is not a weight loss diet it doesnt stop your from guzzling down soda and eating 6 servings of fries and a gallon of frozen desert

However if you eat a reasonable varied vegan diet with lots of fresh fruits and veggies the health benefits are unbeatable

  7. Of course.

    Don't exercise.

Eat high calorie low nutrient foods.

    And etc.

  8. You can gain weight eating anything, even vegan food, if you eat enough bad food.

  9. Absolutely. Calories are calories. Check out the website I've provided for some experts that know a lot about gaining weight!

  10. Your question is lacking in detail so we can't be sure what you really want to know.

Vegan people can be morbidly obese.

They can also be lean bodybuilders.

    Does that answer your question?

  11. Yes, contrary to popular belief we are not all super-pale and paper-thin, if you eat healthy you will look healthy.

But if your idea of being a vegan is supplementing meat with potato chips you are in for a rude awakening.

  12. yes you can becuase nuts and bread have more carbs in them.

  13. You can gain weight with any lifestyle, if you overconsume.

  14. Well, if your scarfing down Cheetos all day long, I'm pretty sure you'd gain weight....A LOT OF IT.

  15. yes, if you ate a ton of carbohydrates, limited vegetables and a lot of junk food (e.g. chips, vegan chocolate, vegan cakes + cookies etc.) You'd be really unhealthy too

  16. Sure and you don't have to, as many answerers have said, eat mostly junk food.

Weight loss/gain is pretty simple: you lose when you burn more calories than you consume and you gain when you consume more calories than you burn.  Whether you eat plants, animals or both is irrelevant to that mathematical calculation.

I have gained about 5 pounds since going vegan 11 months ago.  Clearly, I eat too much.  Very, very little of it is junk food, though.

    (munkimonika: cheetos aren't vegan.)

  17. Vegans only lose weight typically by eating so many fruits and veggies, and whole plant based foods.

You can however eat a lot of c**p that is still vegan- they come out with more and more vegan convieneince and junk foods all the time...  eating a carton of soy ice cream or a box of vegan cookies everyday, or a plate of fries or chips- yes you will gain weight.

I highly disagree with the poster who ripped on nuts and seeds.

White flour and refined sugar (such as high fructose corn syrup) is unhealthy for anyone- vegan or meat eater- these foods are where the fear of carbs come from

*WHOLE* grains however- whole wheat, whole oats, quinoa, millet, are goods carbs .

Hydrogenated oils and saturated fats are unhealthy fat- again for *anyone* on *any* method of eating.

Nuts and seeds (along with other things such as avocados and beans) provide *good* fats needed for our bodies.

Stop giving all carbs and fat a bad wrap- and again this doesn't just apply to vegans...

Vegans who eat whole foods diets as opposed to junk food diets do tend to be fit and /or lose weight.

  18. I've said it before-I know a vegan whose diet seems to consist solely of pastry and fruit juice. Are they overweight? You bet.
