  1. aquatic hermit crabs are strictly saltwater.

    land hermit crabs are freshwater, but cannot live underwater and need their own land set up with a tub of water.


  2. you can if you want it to eat the other fish. Hermit crabs will eat virtually anything. Ideally you should keep at least 2 together as they are very sociable creatures who do not adapt well to living alone. If you have a big enough tank a small group would be ideal.

  3. Hermit crabs need land with a small water dish.  They cannot live totally in water.  If you are thinking of fiddler crabs they need shallow brackish water and they will eat fish if they can catch them.
