Can you add food coloring to bubbles to make them colorful?

  1. The color you see shining iridescently in a bubble is caused by the light reflecting between the inner and outer walls of the bubble membrane.  Adding food coloring would not color the bubble because that membrane is only a very very tiny thickness, so it's not the color of the membrane you're seeing at all.  It's the light bouncing between the membrane walls.  There are pictures on the website below that explain more clearly.
