Can you add special effect like in movies in iMovie for mac?

i am getting a macbook and im wondering if you can add special effects liike smoke fire and other stuff on iMovie

do you know anything similar to it?

iMovie 08 which you get with iLife 08 on macbooks is a very ordinary program with few if any special effects.

However all is not lost.

If you get iLife 08 you can download iMovie HD 06 free which is a far superior video editing program with special effects etc.
