Question:

Can you advise me on SKY Broadband Packages?

Can you advise me on SKY Broadband packages? I am currently a SKY TV customer and want to add their broadband service to my account and cancel my BT Yahoo Broadband. However, I have a number of questions:

1. I already have a second BT phone line upstairs in my room, which I have used mostly for my Internet connection. My main landline is downstairs, for which my mum pays the line rental. So if I cancel my line upstairs and move to SKY, will I still need an engineer to come out and convert my mum's phone to a BT Broadband line?

2. I use the Internet quite a lot, so would going for the second option of paying £10 per month (no activation fee here) be my best bet?

3. Will I have to tell BT first to cancel my second line?

Thanks.

  1. further to earlier answers, if its a second line and not an extension, if you stop it, you will lose phone service, and you need to make sure either your laptop is wireless enabled, or get a wireless adapter, which will probably still be needed if you have a desktop. either way, unless your mum has broadband it will not affect her line. if only one line, make sure you install the micro filters correctly.

  2. As kat says plus a £30 connection fee, with this they send

you a wireless modem.I have the sky broad band and

pay nothing for my broadband and would have fought

the £5 option would suffice for you ? if not you can

easily upgrade to sky £10 broadband.

  3. 1. I don't think an engineer would need to come out to convert  your mum's line to a Broadband line. My Sky Broadband comes down our main landline and we've never had to convert it or anything.

    2. I have the £5 a month option which is OK for 2 computers generally just surfing the net - we don't do a lot of downloading, if you did, the £10 option would be better for you.

    3. Yes, cancel your second line and save yourself money!

  4. 1. When you use Sky for broadband, they set it up remotely and donlt need an egineer visit.

If you have 2 seperate lines, your mum's line won;t be affected at all.  You will need to get the MAC code from your current broadband supplier, give it to Sky, they'll send you your wireless router, give you a switch over date, then you'll be with Sky once it goes live.

    2. If you use broadband for downloading lots of files (music films etc), then mid will be better.

    3. You don't need to cancel your line, you need to cancel your broadband only - you'll still be paying BT for your line rental
