Alright, so can anything plastic be recycled? Because my mom has some shampoo bottles and those bottles you buy car oil in outside, and I need to know if I should put them in the recycling bin.

  1. well you can ask the department concerned with it, as i don't have a concrete idea about it .

  2. There is a number stamped on the bottom of the container saying what kind of plastic it is.  Your recycling depot will only accept certain kinds of plastic because that is all they are able to process at this time.     Most want milk jug plastics.   The other is classified as junk.  So phone your recycling outfit in your area and find out what they will accept.   It varies....otherwise they will refuse everything if you toss it all in there.

  3. The bottles that contained oil should be brought directly to your local transfer station, as they are considered hazardous waste.  Look up your county and transfer station on Yahoo search to determine where it is located.  While you're at the website, see what types of plastic they accept and check the bottom of the shampoo bottles for the number in the recycling logo to see if they qualify for recycling.

  4. Put them in the trash and get them out from in front of your house.

  5. There are about a dozen different types of plastic, and each one can be recycled - but only if the area you live in has the facilities.

The large (and a lot of the small) drinks bottles are PETE and have a '1' in the recycling sign somewhere on the bottle - usually near the bottom.  In North Devon these are acceptable for recycling.  Some other bottles are also PETE, as is some ordinary packaging.  They should also have the identification on the plastic somewhere.

Plastic milk bottles and some washing and dishwasher powder bottles are HDPE, and have a '2' in the recycling sign somewhere.  HDPE is usually a milky 'white', but is sometimes solidly white and occasionally coloured.  Again NDCC will take these.

If in doubt go by the sign on the packaging ONLY.

  6. Only bottles with a 1 or a 2 on the bottom can be recycled.  The other plastics 3,4,5,6,7 cannot be recycled.

  7. there is a triangle on bottom with a number..check to see which ur recycler takes..and most say dont recycle oil jugs the oil messes up the process

  8. Our council says you can recycle shampoo bottles etc. but you have to take the hard plastic top off.  I'm not sure about the car oil ones as you would not be able to rinse them clean and they could contaminate the plastic.

  9. the company or city services dept that picks up the recycling should be able to answer this question by calling or checking their website...in our city we recycle any plastic bottle with a bottom bigger than the top...but I really don't know about oil bottles...they fit our criteria so I would try

  10. Most plastic containers have little numbers on the bottom that stand for what type of plastic they are. Certain areas only accept certain numbers, and to find that out, you'd have to check with your local recycling authorities. I'm pretty sure shampoo bottles are going to be accepted, but I'm not so sure about car oil bottles.
