THIS IS NOT AGAINST COMMUNITY GUIDELINES. Fighting is a VERY common occurrence in hockey. I mean, what do people in the boxing section talk about. I can’t believe my question last night was deleted…I only was able to read like 5 of the answers. It was more of a hockey question, than anything else on here.
In a TRIBUTE to my lost question, here are my multiple questions about hockey fighting.
1) Have you ever seen a hockey fight and felt bad? Example: I have seen a NHL rookie get pounded on, and I had a seat right behind the glass. My female instincts were to feel bad. Go ahead….call me a softy. Have you ever felt this way?
2) When watching ECHL and some other hockey leagues (sometimes in the NHL), you will see players take their own helmet off to save their opponents knuckles. Classy move? The way it should be…. unspoken rule? Or just stupid? Please note: I am not taking about players with shields.
3) I find it disturbing when people discredit Probert’s accomplishments due to drug use. Do you think that I am of a minority to feel this way? I know this was a dead horse like 15 years ago, but it has been a while ago.
4) Referees really can control the flow of a game. Fights can really control the flow of a game, as well. If you were a ref, what do you think is the #1 thing that constitutes automatically not letting two players fight?
5) If BOTH players fought with their gloves on in the NHL, do you think the referees would have the power to waive the fight, and just give them both 5 minutes?
6) Goons. Due to the instigator rule, they are largely becoming extinct. Do you miss goons? Or good riddance?
7) Why does it seem that for the past few seasons, while watching a game on TV, they only show fights like 50% of the time. The camera will be focused on the coach, or they will show a replay, or they will go to commercial. You find yourself yelling at the TV, “What the fudge! They were fighting!â€Â. Why do they find the need to torment us?
Have a great Monday!
