Can you answer these quick question that have to do with MLB & the NHL???!!???

Hockey section is boring today.

1) MLB teams are named in the plural (example the Orioles, Tigers, Mets). In the NHL there are 2 teams that are not named in the plural…the Lightning and the Wild. It is stupid to name teams singular, because there is more than one player on the team?

2) There are 30 teams in MLB & 30 teams in the NHL. If for ONE day, hockey players were the switch with baseball players, & there were games held all over, what of Hockey team would do the best at baseball, and what baseball team would rock at hockey? Would you attend a game?

3) What’s the deal with “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim”? The NHL had a team called “the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim”. Thankfully they now just call themselves the Ducks. Should the Angels officially shorten their name?

4) During the playoffs, hockey players grow beards to show their total dedication to the game (Shaving doesn’t matter…only hockey). During the World Series playoffs, should players grow mustaches?

  1. no, would it make sense to be called the lightnings?

braves would win in hockey because they have tom galvine and no

    yes

no, that was started by a guy on the islanders and is a hockey tradition, a lot of managers dont even allow beards anyway

  2. 1. i dont think it really matters, theres more than one player, but they combine to be one team

    2. i think the bruins would be pretty good. and the yankees might do well, i would love to attend a game

    3. naw, i like the name long

4.nope, they are too superstitious. it might mess up their mindset; creatures of habit

  3. 1.no

2.Toronto Blue Jays and LA kings(they suck at hockey)

3 the Angels must have Aneihem in their name because of their lease. but everybody knows they are not even close to L.A.

4 no. they should be classy and shave.

  4. No love so far in the baseball section?

  5. IDK

  6. 1.well the lightning(lightning doesn't have a plural word).and the avalanche.

2.yes.and the red wings will do good in mlb, the blue jays(toronto)

    3.yes pleez

4.ya. and the yankees cannot grow beards cuz of that dum uniform rule they have. some rays players grew beardsfor rocco!

  7. 1) Actually, you forgot the Avalanche!  But hey, it's not stupid, let 'em do what they want.  It's creativity.  Why can't a team be a single unit?  Isn't that what team sports are all about?

    2) Whew, I really have no idea whatsoever.  I'd attend a game just for fun, but let's see now...I guess the NHL teams stacked with European players wouldn't do well at baseball, because it's such an unfamiliar sport to them.  As for baseball teams playing hockey, I guess the same would hold true for teams consisting largely of players from warmer climates.  My Mets probably wouldn't have a chance.

(EDIT: Jacoby, great points on Glavine and Drury.  Well done!)

    3) Oh, shorten the name already!  It's all about marketing, and I think it sounds incredibly stupid.  I was watching an Angels game on ESPN the other day, and by the time the announcers finished saying the team's names to open the telecast, they were finishing the 4th inning!  Actually, that's an exaggeration - it's obviously not true anyway because ESPN only airs Boston and New York teams...or at least that's what everyone says...and it must be true, because I saw it on the Internet!

It's ridiculous!  It's so bad, that the minor league baseball team formerly known as the Long Beach Armada couldn't resist jumping in and making a complete mockery of the whole thing:

    Awesome!

    4) I don't see the mustache thing catching on quite as well, baseball can do without it.  MLB playoffs don't have quite the same long, grueling, epic feel that the Stanley Cup Playoffs have.  I still love MLB's postseason, but there's just a different feel to it, and I don't think it's conducive to hair-growing...

...but then again, those October-November games can get pretty cold, so you might be onto something...insulation!

  8. 1) Lightning and Wild are the plural forms of those words, kinda like deer or sheep. (Maybe there should be a team called The Sheep... they're never in the lead, they just follow!!!) The one that always amuses me is a college team, The Stanford Cardinal. It's not like The Cardinals (Arizona football and St. Louis baseball teams), it's actually the color. They are a color!

    2) I think the Red Wings would do well at baseball because they are very team oriented, and i think the Rockies would do well at hockey because they have some big hitters. I would attend a game if it wasn't too far out of my way.

3)It's L.A., they always think they're "all that". (hstereo rolls his eyes)

4)Definitely!!! The problem is that some of the kids that play in MLB are too young to grow a mustache! MLB could advertise it as the Unshaven World Series. Maybe more people would watch it.

  9. no, would it make sense to be called the lightnings?

  10. 1) No. Wilds and Lightning don't make sense. Plus other leagues have singular names. (Utah Jazz for instance)

    2) The Braves at Hockey. Tom Glavine was a 4th rd pick

The Rangers at Baseball. Chris Drury was an excellent pitcher taking his team to a little league WS title

    3) Yeah. Back to Anaheim Angels or LA Angels

    4) Nah. It takes away from the guys who grow beards all yr (Rollie Fingers, Goose Gossage) and some pitchers use beards as intimination tactics (Sal maglie used his beard as part of the menacing image that gave him his nickname Sal The Barber. Maglie was known for striking fear into players by throwing at them to brush them off the plate [hence thename Sal The Barber: He gave "Close Shaves")

Besides the Yankees don't even allow it (Though Thurman Munson, Goosage and Jason Giambi do get away w/it).
