Refer to the exhibit. The tracert command is initiated from PC1 to the destination PC4. Which device will send a response to the initial packet from PC1?

- London

- Paris

- Athens

- Ankara

- PC4

I would like to know which is the correct answer and WHY!!!!!

All the answers I found so far are Athens and I don't think that is correct, it makes no sense.

Thanks.

  1. everyone above answered fine, but I'd like to answer the WHY. The WHY is because traceroute increments the hop count by one each time, until the destination is reached.

    dboy

  2. The first destination is the next on the geographical if it says on your answer Athens then it came from Ancara, Turkey.

  3. The tracert command will get a response from every router that it passes through on it's route to the destination. This command is used to trace the route to find why PC1 Can not connect to PC4. It will find the route taken, list a response from all routers/servers along the way. This enumerates the route for diagnostic purposes.

    Pathping provides more info.

  4. London. That is the first destination the tracert packet hits after it leaves PC1. When it reaches London, London sends a response back, and also forwards the tracert to the next location. This repeats until the final destination is reached.

So, to answer the question "Which device will send a response to the INITIAL packet from PC1?" it will be the first device: London.
