  1. No.  Realize that they will be anywhere from 6-8" long as adults, and almost as wide and tall.  That means you're talking about a 6-8" sphere, basically, and 4 of those would barely fit in a 29 gallon tank, let alone have room to swim or hold water to dilute their waste.  I really wouldn't put more than one or two in there if you want it to lead a semi-normal life.

EDIT: Fancy Goldfish rarely get 8" long because people suggest putting 4 in a 29 gallon tank, which is a sure fire way to stunt their growth and shorten their lives.  If you allowed them a reasonable amount of space (for 4, a 40+ gallon tank, realistically), people would see more 8" Fancy Goldfish.

  2. with filter and you want growth 2 fancy since they are very sensitive in poor water condition.  You need a lot of water changes to upkeep a good water condition.

  3. you can easily house 4 fancy's in a 29.  Just be sure you have good filtration and keep to a weekly 25% water change and cleaning schedule.

Goldfish don't need hundreds of gallons of water to grow full size and be healthy.  Different goldfish have different requirements.  while I would not suggest putting a fancy in a 5 gallon tank, you can easily house 4 in a 20 provided you have filtration.

It is about swimming space and dissolved oxygen, along with water quality and swim space

Fancy's rarely get 8" long and the tail isn't part of the body.  There is pleanty of room for 4 fish in your tank.

  4. I had great luck with a total of 5, and one big plecko...and 7 little corydoras catfish...they are great fun to watch and do produce babies...most of which get eaten before they have a chance to grow up. Don't over feed them because it will foul your tank.

  5. 2

  6. Goldfish will not grow large in a small tank. I have a Lionhead that is several years old and only 3 inches long.

Assume 2 gallons of water volume per inch of goldfish (not including fins). That is a safe margin. A 29 gallon tank can easily support 3 or 4 large (4 inches or so, not including fins) goldfish.

That is if you want them to live comfortably. If you want them to grow as big as possible, the more space you give them the better. The ideal would be to have just one fish in the tank. Its a tradeoff.

I have been raising goldfish for years, and don't have a single specimen that is 8 inches. They are not going to go from 2 inches to 8 in a single year.

If you are really worried about it, get some live plants as well. Live plants will augment your biological filter. They consume waste products and help oxygenate the water.

  7. 3 would be perfect, enough room for each one to be comfortable

  8. 4 0r 5 to comfterable

  9. probably if you want to be safe try 3 or 4 but no more.

  10. Gold fish tend to create more waiste than tropical. 4 fish will do very well, depending on your willingness to clean you could add more but to get full growth and less maintenence 3 to 4 .

  11. I would say at least 5. MY fish book says 3 goldies per ten gallon tank. HOpe this helps.
