Fred recieved the following scores for his gymnastics routine: 8.5, 7.8, 8.0, 6.8, 7.1, 7.6. To figure out his score, the judges drop the highest and lowest score and then average the rest of his scores.

a) What is Fred's gymnastics score for the meet?

b) How much better or worse would he have done if the judges did not drop the highest and lowest scores?

Please give me the answer and SHOW YOUR WORK!!!

  1. a) the score is a 7.625

the highest score is an 8.5 and the lowest is 6.8 so you drop these two scores and then add the others up (7.8+8.0+7.1+7.6) then divide that answer by 4 which equals 7.625.

    b) with the other two scores he would have gotten a 7.633 so he did a little better with the other two scores. This time you would add up all the scores and divide by 6.

    hope this will help!

  2. a. 7.625

I dropped the highest, 8.5 and the lowest, 6.8. Then I averaged the rest which will be 7.625.

    b. 0.0083333....

I averaged all the scores together and got 7.6333 then I subtracted it from 7.625.

  3. Fred's average score is found by adding all the scores (except the highest and lowest) and dividing by the number of scores added together.

To find out how much better or worse he would have done, including the highest and lowest scores in your calculations.

The rest I bet you can do on your own.  :)
