The world used to be full of Monarchs, at a single time that is all that there ever was.

Now there are only 29 Monarchs in the world. Only 2 of them have Absolute power over their country, they are Oman and Saudi Arabia.

I ask, is a Traditional Monarchy more like an Absolute or a Constitutional Monarchy?

  1. Only one nation-state in the world has still a traditional monarchy and that is the Vatican City. It supreme head is the pope and take note it has no parliament or any legislative body. Therefore a traditional monarchy is at most like absolute. But it differs in the way of succession, the traditional monarch is elected ( Vatican : the Pope is elected by the College of Cardinals).

  3. A constitutional monarch can only advise, not give orders. There has always been a struggle in Britain between crown and parliament, specifically the house of commons. Parliament is developed from the medievil "curia regis", an advisory assembly of magnates, from the 13th century humbler classes were sometimes summoned. The gradual ascendancy of parliament began with its control of revenue. Charles I had recognized virtualy no limits to the power of the crown, by Victoria's reign these powers had practically vanished.
