A week ago, someone reveived a letter in English. She came to this site and thanks for the letter that she received but she didn't understand it. She wrote it Vietnamse.

I answer her and told her if she needs translation, just post the letter and I will translate for her. Next thing I know I received a note from Yahoo telling me that I violated their terms of service. I didn't say anything rude, used vulgar language, obscene content or use sexually explicit language. I responded to the email from yahoo and asked them why would it be a violation if the answer simply to help someone?. I never received any answer from them.

I came to a conclusion because Yahoo people can' t understand Vietnamese so they're just pissed off and telling me that I violated their terms and service. That's absurb ! I like to write in Vietnamese. Lots of us on this site are Vietnamese and we have no problem understand our own language. What do you think?

  1. This is the English version of Yahoo, so all questions and answers must be written in English. If they ask for a translation, then you may provide translations in Vietnamese, but it is against Yahoo's rules to answer questions in another language. That is why you got a violation.

At the bottom of the page, "Vietnam" is now listed under "Answers International". If you wish to answer in Vietnamese, that is probably where you should go.

(I clicked the "Vietnam" link, and it appears that Yahoo has not yet actually posted it. The same goes for the "Thailand" link. They are probably working on it, so it may be available in a few days)

  2. Naw, I think people got nothing to do so they just click on report abuse. I just got a violation notice from yahoo for an answer almost a year ago. YET they did READ that person was CURSING at me and what I replied was "if you send me an email one more time and I will report you" .. SO what's up?? I got report instead. This site's getting races too..

  3. I've actually seen people posting questions, answers and comments in other languages and got away with it http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...  I guess the enforcement isn't consistent.  I for one am not against posting in another language if Yahoo hasn't come up with a forum in that language as in the case of Vietnamese.  There are people who get ticked off easily if a communication in another language takes place and they can't understand.  These people assume they must understand everything and others are obligated to accomodate them.  In this particular case, you could have given her your email address and communicate with her privately to avoid the wrath from the SS.
