I am 24 weeks pregnant. I am due December 9th. I am also a college student. Finals week is December 1st through 5th. In a perfect world, the baby would wait until at least December 6th before making his entrance. However, I'm really worried. Last day of classes is November 20th ... and then I have off for a lil over a week for Thanksgiving break. I think that would be the ideal time to have the baby(so basically two weeks ahead of schedule) since I'm so scared about not getting to take my finals if I go into labor finals week. Can I asked to be induced during that time? (Next appointment is August 26th so I'll talk with my doc then) ... What are the chances of my doc agreeing to that? Anyone have any first hand knowledge about asking to have the baby early? He has been measuring bigger/ahead of schedule since the beginning so I'm sure he'll be ready ... If he's not then obviously I wouldn't want him to be born early!

  1. you can ask to be induced but......i had major surgery the week of finals in my school and my professor told me that she could hold off my final till the beginning of january.  i would go in and talk to your professor and see what he or she says about it.  then if he or she says no then i would go talk to your ob.

    good luck!!

  2. I think you would be better off to talk to your professors about taking your finals during that time rather than asking to have the baby early.  Do you really want to leave your week old baby to go take your finals anyways? I'm not sure if your doctor would do that.  I know mine wouldn't.  She said they won't induce without a clear medical need, or until you are at 42 weeks.

  3. You usually can ask to be induced early, but not anything before 38 weeks I dont think.

  4. I think it would be easier to ask to write your finals earlier or later.  Also, I had a preemie (37 weeks)  (he stopped growing at 32 weeks gestation) but, he has had many health problems... it is always better for the baby to stay in the womb as long as possible.

    Just my two cents!  :)

Hope all works out well for you!

  5. No doctor is going to induce you early, just for exams. You would have to be in danger or

the life of your baby would have to be in danger. I am afraid you are going to have to sweat it out. Don't mess with Mother Nature.

    But, good luck!

  6. I know the hospitals and doctors in my area will NOT induce until you are AT LEAST a week past your due date.
