Can you attach a 2x6 to an insulfoam foundation wall?

I want to attach a 2x6 to the exterior of a foundation wall on my home. The wall is an insulfoam foundation wall on concrete footers. I than want to use the 2x6 as one of the supports to put floor joists on to build a small porch. in other words, I want to "attach an supprt the porch to the foam block.... Any ideas??

  1. You can if you through-bolt the wood to the concrete inside the foundation. The foam won't support any weight.None. Nada.

    The wooden support should be treated, and any metal that touches the treated wood should be galvanized or stainless steel. You can also wrap the board were the joist hangers will touched with blue skin or some similar peel and stick moisture barrier.

    If you can get a copy of last month's (June/July issue) Fine Homebuilding magazine, say from your local library, or from the magazine's web pages, there's a great article on building decks and so-on, and the article shows some nice jigs and shortcuts to make things easier..
