If they really want you then they will fly you to wherever they are filming.

You can audition wherever they're having audiitons.  Not just NY or CA. Watch your local paper.

A number of shows and movies are filmed in New York, and you can audition for them there.  There is a need for actors in a lot of cities: Vancouver has a lot of shows and movies filmed near the city; the Disney channed films and finds talent in Utah and several other places.  You can audition almost anywhere.
