  1. you'll need to be at least 21 for most major airlines and have around 750+hrs

which ur not gonna have by the age of 19

  2. Yes.  There are many kinds of commercial pilot jobs.  Some air carriers might hire a commercial pilot who is multiengine-rated, 19, and experienced enough.

  3. § 61.153   Eligibility requirements: General.

To be eligible for an airline transport pilot certificate, a person must:

    (a) Be at least 23 years of age;

    (b) Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language. <snip>

  4. Actually yes, you can get your commercial pilot's certificate at 18, however most airlines require/prefer a ATP's and ATP's written test.

If you have your commercial pilots certificate and enough hours at 19 to get hired by a airline, your impressive.

  5. The answer is "YES"

Don't confuse Commercial and ATP Licenses (Certs.)

A Piper Cub can be a Commercial A/C if flown for hire..

  6. Yes, For your questions on age and other medical requirements look up this site

  7. Yes. Its hard to tell what you mean by commercial, though. Do you mean HUGE jumbo jets? Then, no. If you mean a pilot that has their commercial rating, then yes. A 19 year old can have their commercial rating and charge people for flights in say, a Cessna 172.

  8. Almost every airline I've ever seen has a minimum age of 21 (some have 23) listed in their hiring minimums for first officer positions.  Plus, you'll need a lot of flight hours which would be hard to get by the time you're 19.  You need an absolute minimum of 400-500 hours to start qualifying for entry level positions at regional air carriers.

  9. most commercial air companies hire only pilots with x amount of flying time. Unless you are really rich and have had flying lessons on your own plane than the air force or navy is really the only other place to get that flying time. by 19 people usually dont have enough hours under their belt to be hired. theoretically yes you can be a commercial airline flyer at 19 if you have the required fly time

  10. Strictly speaking, any operation where you are paid for piloting an aircraft is a commercial operation. Thus getting paid for towing banners with your commercial certificate when you're 18 makes you a working commercial pilot.

You could fly as F/O with only your commercial ticket as well. Theoretically, you could fly as first officer in a 747 at only 18.  An ATP is only required for PIC. In fact, Mesa Airlines has a bunch of F/Os who don't have enough time to qualify for their ATP yet. That's pretty much the exception to what's really happening out there. Most airlines won't even talk to you until you have at least your ATP. Right now, there are gonna be LOT of furloughs come September, so don't hold your breath.

  11. Perhaps. You will most likely need a 4 year degree and at least 300-1000 hours.

  12. Yes, it is possible. Your question is a bit on the vague side. What type of commerical flying are you refering to? I flew with a guy who flew traffic watch at the age of 19 and then was hired on to a regional carrier shortly after he turn 20. There are a few options available for low time pilots, regaurdless of thier age to do commerical flying - in this case I am assuming you use the term "commercial" to mean all and any flying you get paid to do.

It all comes down to how driven and committed you are. In the case of the guy I flew with; he was a very intellegent person, had parents with deep pockets, and was a very capable pilot. Quite above-average and out of the ordinary.

  13. You can be a commercial pilot at nineteen.

Commercial just means you can fly for hire and be paid for it.

It depends on what you want to fly. I've met 19 year old instructors with hundreds of hours to their credit.

Commercial aviation is more than just Airline Transport.

There are some very young bush pilots flying in Alaska and the Yukon.

  14. Yep, I know a guy that got his commercial on his 18th bday and was working for an airline a year later. He had been flying with his dad since he was young though and they had their own plane. As far as the people saying you have to be 23 that is just to be captain. You need to be 23 to get you ATP certificate. Airlines could care less if you have this when they hire you because you are going to redo it for captain training anyway.
