Can you be a Christian if you don't believe in The Trinity?

The trinity isn't even mentioned in the Bible it was created by a pope a long time ago. So.... seeing as Jesus (peace be upon him) or God didn't put trinity in the Bible when it was made. Does that not mean that they didn't intend for the Christians to believe in trinity?

  1. No, to be Christian is to be a believer and follower of Christ Jesus. Jesus very plainly states the he is God come to earth to die and pay for our sins with his blood.

John 8:19 Then said they unto him, where is thy Father? Jesus answered,Ye neither know me,nor my Father:if ye had known me,ye should have known my Father also.

John 10:30 I (Jesus) and my Father are one.

John 10:14 I am (Jesus) the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

10:15 As the Father knoweth me,even so know I the Father:and I lay down my life for the sheep.

John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold them also I must bring and they shall hear my voice;and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd(Jesus).

  2. Considering that the concept of the Trinity wasn't even thought of until the second century, none of the early Christians were really Christians.  Paul wasn't a Christian, the authors of the gospels weren't Christians, and so on.  The verses pointed to as proof that the trinity is in the Bible were mot likely written with a different intent and can only be interpreted that way by those who are determined to find some back justification for the later doctrine.

Why were non-Christian allowed to write the Bible?

  3. The trinity was created at the council of Nicaea in 325ad. Your right it is not mentioned in the Bible at all. At no time does Jesus claim to be God or the son of God as in the begotten son of God. Read the Bible for yourself and you'll never find it. As for being Christian, I can't see why you can't be, there are a number of christian sects who do no follow the trinity. As for me I left christianity 15 years ago, there's just too much there that just doesn't add up, like the trinity for one.

  4. Yes, then you'd be with the Arians.

Too bad they were butchered to extinction by fellow Christians in the 4th century. The Arians were declared heretics in the Council of Nicaea in 325, in the same conference that hosted a vote about whether Jesus was divine or not and instated the doctrine of the Trinity. You heard me, both were decided by a vote! How ridiculous is that? What if the other side had won? Then Arian views would be dominant and you 'wouldn't be a Christian' if you believed in the Trinity.

Edit: Thanks for the thumbs down. My information remains however, factual.

  5. u r not correct the trinity is in the bible it speaks of God the Father the Creator

when Gabreil went to Mary and told her she would give birth to a child Gabriel told her it would be the Son of God and u will call Him Emanuelle this word means God with us so there is part 2 of the trinity God incarnate God with us

the 3rd part is mentioned every time u see the words the Holy Spirit in hebrew it is the shecinah glory or God's spirit here on earth

so if u dont beleive in the trinity u dont belive Christ is the living word or God among us or God who walked with us u also dont beleive that the Spirit of God comes to earth to fill our hearts with His divine presence

so if u dont believe Christ is God incarnate how can u be a Christian the word Christian means exactly this Christ man

so no u can not no Christ as God incarnate no Christian this is biblical nothing else is correct just teachings of man

  6. I always thought the Trinity was Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost. Wouldn't not believing in that mean you weren't a Christian?

  7. Yes. A majority of  Christian denominations have the trinity as a central tenet of their theology, but not all do.

  8. Not in my opinion.. No..

  9. Jesus said you must repent (change your ways) and believe the gospel (good news of the New Testament) - Mark 1:15.

Colossians 2:9, 1 Timothy 3:16, John 20:28, Acts 5:3-4, Matthew 28:19 make the case for the Trinity.

  10. Are you a Christian?

  11. A Christian believes in Christ. Thats the beginning and end of my answer.

  12. Any serious study of the Bible shows the trinity.

In fact, it is only possible to deny the trinity by tap dancing around the 100s of verses that the Bible contains, that show the threefold nature of God.

  13. Yes.  You are not a trinitarian Christian.  You are an Arian Christian.

This is a long standing Christian debate, and you are with half of Christianity.  Congratulations.  You are not alone.

I am kind of half-trinitarian.  I do not quite hold to the Catholic definition of the God-head, but I am not precisely Arian either, but it is not what is important.  Obscure metaphysical arguments compromise the power of the practical gospel.

I don't believe it is essential to salvation.

Jesus did not come to Earth to be God.  He came to Earth to fulfill messianic purpose, tell of the Kingdom of God, and by his death and resurrection establish the kingdom of God, working salvation by bearing the sin of the world on the cross, and conquering death in resurrection.

The effectiveness of the cross is not affected by his divinity or non-divinity.

The Holy Spirit would be defined either as the Father extending Himself into our reality, or a person separate from the Father.

What is important is the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.  The Holy Spirit is not at work in your life to be classified and defined, the Holy Spirit has distinct purpose, and it is the purpose of: intercession, conviction, truth, fruit, empowered ministry, adoption/covenant, and unity that is important.

It does not help having a fancy definition of the Holy Spirit while denying the ministry of the Spirit in your life.

In other words, technical metaphysics is not important, but purpose is.  We define Jesus and the Holy Spirit by purpose, not by technical metaphysics.
