Can you be a YouTube Partner with videos of covers of songs?

Question

I was wondering if that was copyright infringement even if I put that i do not own anything. And if it is what would happen if they catch you because you make money of it because your a YouTube Partner. Thanks :) :)

I don't think so because I've seen some partners who just plain SING the song (EX: esmeedenters.. or something like that) and don't get in trouble. I think just as long as you don't use THE EXACT SAME RECORDED SONG, it should be fine.
