Can you be arrested for verbal assault now?

This is just a question that came across my mind.

Yes.  Making threats of physical violence is, and pretty much always has been considered illegal.

Yes. You don't need to make bodily contact to assault someone BUT you generally need to back your words with something. If you shout and call someone a moron no problems. Now if you get into a fighting stance or shake you fists and yell something like "I'm gonna kill you" then they've got a case.

Only if you threaten to kill a m**o.  It's then called aggrivated harrassment.  It is not against the law to call them every other name in the book though.  You just can't threaten to kill them.
