Question:

Can you be both anti-abortion and pro-execution?

These seem to contradict to me. I suppose it could be a valid question the other way round, but I ask it this way because Sarah Palin is of this view. I am wondering about the answer to this in a social context as well as religiously.

  1. yes.  anti-abortion means giving life a chance. pro-execution basically means the same thing.  kill the murderer to give the victim a chance to live.

  2. Yes of course . Both positions are entirely Biblical

Exodus 20:13  Thou shalt not kill (murder).

Genesis 9:6  Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

  3. Not really contradictory.

I suppose if the ONLY reason you oppose abortion is that you think it is wrong to kill, then perhaps it would be a bit inconsistent to simultaneously support the death penalty.  However, even then there is the pesky little problem that an aborted baby did not choose to commit a crime and is being executed anyway!

In a social context, the death penalty is a punishment for the choice to commit a crime AND it offers some value as a deterrent to future crimes.  Abortion is nothing more than a desire to avoid the consequences of a choice you already made...and I think it is dangerous to encourage people to avoid taking responsibility for their choices.  The way I see it, having an abortion is a little like sitting down at a roulette wheel, putting your entire savings on black and then trying to take back your bet when the ball lands on red!  ...and unintended pregnancy isn't the only personal or societal consequence of irresponsible sexual activity!

I'm not sure where I stand on the death penalty, but I'm convinced that legalized abortion has and will continue to have a negative impact on our society and on the people that take advantage of their "right" to choose to avoid the consequences of their choice to have s*x!

  4. Pro-choice and anit-exectution are not contradictory at all.

One is a small bundle of cells without consciousness or self awareness that has a high potential to cause damage to the mothers health and life, while a criminal is a human being with emotions and self awareness.

And to Gogododo, how exactly would killing a murderer give a victim a chance to live? If he's a murderer then surely his victim is dead? And if you mean future victims i'd like to know with how much certainty you can predict his eventual escape from prison AND subsequent reoffending?

Execution may be justice but it is still murder. Murder is an absolute. If you support execution you are a murderer and thus you deserve to be killed (seeing the paradox yet?)

  5. I guess it's that babies are innocent and convicted murderers are murders.

Not as bad to let little ole' baby live and fry up Mr. Convict.

Edit - In no way do I support Palin if this comes off that way.

  6. I have a feeling that contradiction is the first of many we have yet to see with her. As long as it's not if she's in office. . . . I don't give a hoot.

  7. you can, but I'm not i think both are wrong and God is the only one who has the right to take a life

  8. Abortion is murder. Execution is justice for murder.

  9. Well I guess you can, you just sited a prime example.

It seems some life is more worthy of protection that others.  Very Christian.

Of course it's hypocritical and a contradiction in terms what else could you expect from those that claim god love me.
