Here is the scenario I am referring to:

Say you are a decent citizen with a CCL, which is a permit in most states(I live in Texas), that permits you to carry a gun, and you are in line at a gas station and the guy in front of you decides to rob the place.

Personally, I would identify myself as a police officer, even though I am not, and I would try to take control of the situation. I know it sounds stupid, but what is a robber really going to do? You are behind them and you ave a gun that, hopefully, you know how to shoot, he probably has some P.O.S. gun that he traded for drugs, so if you got a pair, it's all good.

It seems to me that the burglar would be more cooperative with someone who they thought was the law.

So my question is, could some thug get off the burglary charge because some hero identified themselves as someone whom they are not, and can the hero get in trouble for impersonating an officer?

  1. You would get nailed big time if you did this. You can play war hero if you want but you can not identify yourself as a peace officer if you are not especially when it comes to using a gun. You are a citizen so act like one. If you try to act on this you could be the one shot dead. Act as a good witness and stay away.

  2. Lay off watching Walker Texas Ranger reruns or you might get hurt.
