Can you be denied entry to spain due to criminal convictions?

under the new security rulings for tourists travelling to spain, everyone is to provide background information. i think its called API check that came into effect today. after searching it doesnt say you have to declare any convictions, only name D.O.B, place of birth and passport number. can spanish authorities checks convictions if they have this info?

  1. Of course they can check - and you'd be well advised to ask the Spanish Embassy if they would let you in before you make any plans to go.  They may view some criminal convictions in a kinder light than others.


  2. Hey, Spain is a member state of the EU and cannot stop the free travel of EU citizens across the international borders.

They can but its not going to happen.  Most countries in the world have a statute on the books with this kind of law.  The only time they exersise this rule is if you have drawn major attention to yourself or genuinly look like a terrorist.  I have a major criminal record from the states and have never had a problem at any border.  And all I am doing these days is traveling.  20 countries in the last year.  Many more than once.  Don't sweat it.  you are home free!
